About COR™
The
Certificate of Recognition (COR™) is an occupational health and safety
program accreditation for industry employers aimed at reducing the
human and financial costs associated with workplace accidents and
injuries.
COR™ is rapidly becoming the key criteria in the legislated
requirement to evaluate, select and monitor contractors - used as a
pre-qualification requirement for contractors working in and out of
province. COR™ is the highest distinction available to contractors;
verifying a fully implemented and effective safety & health program
that meets the national standards.
Trademarked and endorsed by participating members of the Canadian
Federation of Construction Safety Associations, your Northern
Construction Safety Association is an Authority Having Jurisdiction to
grant COR™ in the NWT and Nunavut. In achieving this national safety
program accreditation in NWT, NCSA practices the upmost diligence to
ensure that the COR™ standards are upheld. With one common audit
instrument utilized across Canada, the national standard is clear:
Minimum 50% in each element and an overall audit score of 80%.
PLEASE NOTE:
Your Northern Safety Association is the Authority
Having Jurisdiction to grant COR™ Certification in the NWT and Nunavut
for the building construction industry (Industrial, Commercial,
Institutional & Residential). In achieving this national safety
program accreditation in NWT, NCSA practices the upmost diligence to
ensure that the COR™ standards are upheld - as such extreme caution
should be taken if any other organization suggests they are able to
provide your company with COR™ training; COR™ audits or COR™
Certification.

How to Achieve COR ™ Certification
The COR™ Certificate issued by NCSA to successful companies and the
privileges associated with the COR™ program administered by NCSA are
dependent on performance and will be revoked for failure to maintain
the standards required.
COR™ is valid for three years providing a company maintains their
eligibility in the COR™ program; the training elements are maintained;
and auditing standards are maintained annually (minimum 50% in each
element and minimum 80% overall). A Letter of Good Standing is issued
annually to validate the COR™ Certificate, and ensure all standards are
met.
The steps to achieving COR™ Certification include:
- Completion of 4 training modules
- Completion of a company safety manual
- Implementation of a company safety program
- Audit by company (generally 3-6 months after the safety program implementation)
- NCSA Audit
- External Audit
Seminars are available throughout the territory as often as demand
requires. For scheduled training dates and locations, please refer to
our training calendar, or contact our office at (867) 920-0763.
AUDIT Requirements:
Initial year of COR™ requires the successful submission of the following audits:
- Company Self Audit
- NCSA Internal Audit
- External Audit
The second and third year of COR™ maintenance requires the successful submission of the following audits
- Company Self Audit
- NCSA External Audit / Verification Review
NCSA also reserves the right to conduct random COR™ site assessments
and/or COR™ spot audits on COR™ Certified employers at any time to
ensure that COR™ audit standards and COR™ Program Guideline standards
are maintained.
